What Are Essential Oils And What Do They Do?

Essential oils are compounds extracted from certain plants such as eucalypts and then concentrated into oils to support health and well-being. This blog will explain the basics surrounding essential oils and their health benefits.

Popular Oils

There are over 50 essential oils, each unique and equipped with their own potential benefits. The most popular are:

  1. Lavender: Improves mood and supports brain health
  2. Lemon: Encourages detoxification
  3. Peppermint: Relieves digestive problems (gas or heartburn) and reduces feelings of stress and anxiety
  4. Eucalyptus: Relieves muscle pain and boosts immune system
  5. Clary Sage: Regulates hormones and has antidepressant effects

Health Benefits of Essential Oils:

Boost Your Immune System

If you’re having issues with your immune system and would like to make it stronger, there are a number of oils that you can use to aid in that process.

Peppermint and tea tree oils are among the many oils that are great at keeping your passages free of congestion and bacteria.

Stress and Anxiety

Stress can be hard to manage and affects you negatively both physically and emotionally. Smells, such as chamomile and jasmine, can keep you calm. Scientists believe that these scents send chemical messages to the areas of the brain that affect your mood and emotions. There is no specific rule that one oil is better than another, especially when it comes to stress relief. Shopping around and find an oil that calms you and makes you feel relaxed.

Improve Sleep and Decrease Insomnia

If you find yourself having trouble falling asleep, you may want to look into diffusing essential oils. Lavender is known as one of the most versatile oils. Inhaling lavender oils has been proven to improve sleep quality. It is also known for reducing high levels of stress hormones in your blood.

Increase Your Energy Levels

If you want to cut down on your caffeine intake, consider using essential oils instead. Lemon is known for boosting mood and energy levels. There was a study conducted that showed that administering peppermint oil boosts exercise performance.

You should always exercise caution when using essential oils. Not every oil will perform the same way for everyone. The chemical compounds of certain essential oils can have harmful effects when used in combination with medications.

Individuals who have any of the following conditions should proceed with caution when diffusing essential oils:

  • Asthma
  • Any type of allergy
  • Skin conditions such as psoriasis
  • High blood pressure
  • Epilepsy

For all of your essential oil needs, come check out Aroma Oil Diffusers. We offer a wide selection of essential oils for your specific needs and diffusers for any room.

Mosquito bites are itchy and can prevent you from enjoying your outdoor activities. Many people are mosquito magnets and no matter where they go, mosquitos seem to follow. This can be because of a number of different reasons, including humidity, light, as well as your scent.

While there are a number of products you can use to repel mosquitoes and keep them away, many of these sprays and creams and other solutions have chemical components that are harmful and dangerous, so instead of turning to these products, try using natural repellants. The following are a few to consider:

  1. Lemon eucalyptus oil. This is a very well-known repellant that is both natural and effective and will help keep the mosquitoes away. This type of oil will offer a lot of protection so that you don’t have to worry about their bites.
  2. Lavender. This is a proven mosquito repellent because they do not like the fragrance and the oil produced by crushed lavender flowers. Once they smell the lavender they will go far away.
  3. Cinnamon oil. In addition to being a great ingredient, cinnamon oil acts as a repellent when it comes to adult mosquitoes and kills off their eggs so that you don’t have to wonder about more of them making an appearance.
  4. Thyme oil. This is a very effective repelling oil that will provide you with a lot of protection. If you want to take it one step further, you can also throw thyme leaves into an outdoor fire to see even more protection as burning thyme leaves are also very effective.
  5. Greek catnip oil. If you’re looking for protection that will last several hours, this is the best option to consider. The extract and oil that come from the bruised leaves of these flowers are very valuable and will repel mosquitoes for up to three hours.

If you love spending time outdoors and doing activities like hiking or camping, you should definitely give natural essential oils a try. You will be pleasantly surprised to see how much protection they provide so that you can sit comfortably in your backyard without being bitten by mosquitoes and having to deal with itchy and irritated skin. The outdoors are meant to be enjoyed, so if you want more information regarding this form of repellant, contact Aroma Oil Diffuser to see the type of essential oils they offer. The sooner you contact them, the sooner you can start enjoying the great outdoors again!

Lavender Essential Oil

Practicing meditation before resting for the night can allow for a peaceful, undisturbed sleep and leave you feeling perceptive and enlightened in the morning. Ylang-Ylang Essential Oil

Ylang-ylang essential oil has sedative properties that work to soothe tense muscles to relax and the body as well as the mind. It can be difficult to adjust to the meditation process both mentally and physically, but by relieving the body and mind of tension will make for an easier adjustment. This essential oil has also been found to help release negative emotions such as anger and sadness to improve one’s ability to focus and calm their mind.

Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint oil can relieve tension but is most commonly known for its ability to decrease inflammation and help treat respiratory problems. Perception of pain is linked to one’s state of mind and it can intensify when putting in a stressful situation. Both peppermint oil and meditation help mitigate pain to allow for easier overall function of the mind and body.

Palo Santo Essential Oil

Historically, it was used by Peruvian and Ecuadorian natives to ward off negative spirits and energy around you or in the environment. Eliminating negative energies is conducive to overall good health and an effective meditation session. Palo santo can also allow for a potential deeper connection to the environment around you, your inner self and the creator.

Do you suffer from asthma or bronchial allergies? Ever considered sniffing essential oils to breathe easier? Just a few whiffs can do many wonders. Concentrated essential oils derived from plant extracts are made of chemical compounds that have many health benefits. As pollution increases and breathing issues become more and more common, a variety of essential oils are growing in popularity. If you haven’t been near them, it’s time you did. See how selected essential oils can help you enjoy better health.

What are Essential Oils?

The word “essential” comes from the “essence” of the plant’s scent that gives it unique characteristics that treat a wide variety of health conditions. The oils are extracted through distillation or cold pressing. Oils that are extracted from a chemical process don’t fall in the essential oil category. They need to be obtained in a way that helps them retain their natural scent and characteristics.

How to use Essential Oils?

These aromatic concentrations of pure, natural oils are invigorating in every sense. They can be applied as an oil that is heated and inhaled through a diffuser or steaming, but they are not meant to be consumed orally, unlike other oils.

Once the chemical compounds touch the skin, they seep into the cells and stimulate several areas of the body such as the brain and limbic system. The limbic system plays a big role in activating memory. This is why certain smells remind you of specific people or situations.

When essential oils are heated and applied on the skin, they blend right into the cells and rejuvenate them. When they are heated and inhaled through a nebulizing diffuser or steamer, the microbial properties in that oil that help fight bacteria and viruses, diffuse into the lungs, reducing inflammation and bronchial congestion. Not all essential oils provide these benefits. Below are the ones that do:

Peppermint Essential Oil

For those who are prone to bronchial asthma, peppermint essential oil is a comforting scent. The powerful anti-inflammatory properties of peppermint help soothe the inflamed muscles during a bronchial asthma attack. It is full of antimicrobial and antibacterial properties that reduce congestion and help you breathe easier. Peppermint is also helpful during a cold.

Ginger Essential Oil

The strong, uplifting aroma of ginger invigorates sinuses, opening clogged cells. If you’re having difficulty breathing, inhale ginger essential oil to minimize airway constriction. In an asthma attack, breathe it in gently. Ginger oil is effective for colds and flu, acts as a stimulant and has a calming effect as well

Frankincense Essential Oil

Frankincense oil has been known for its healing properties for decades. It soothes the respiratory system, digestive system, bronchial system and immune system. If you suffer from shortness of breath or nasal congestion, inhale it to regulate your breathing or soothing coughing spasms.

Eucalyptus Oil

The oil has been used to treat asthma, sinusitis and bronchial congestion in many parts of the world for hundreds of years. It is also known to heal insect bites. Add a few drops to steaming hot water or a diffuser and inhale deeply. It acts as an expectorant, reducing mucus. Eucalyptus oil also alleviates breathing problems by stimulating cold receptors.

Tea Tree Oil

Like eucalyptus oil, tea tree oil soothes insect stings and reduces inflammation. It removes mucus that obstructs breathing by sticking to the lungs. Mucus also causes coughing and wheezing. The antimicrobial properties of tea tree oil fight bacteria and germs that cause inflammation.

Aroma Oil Diffuser

Diffusers work best to disperse the scent of essential oils but heat can change the chemical composition so the therapeutic benefits lessen. Instead, use a nebulizing diffuser. These fizz out vapor from essential oils without using heat or water, so all the goodness goes straight into your lungs. If you suffer from breathing problems, check out our attractive range of diffusers at Aroma Oil Diffuser to introduce the delightful, therapeutic, invigorating scents into your life.

It has happened to all of us at one time or another, especially during this time of the year.

The Holidays have passed, the days are shorter, the weather is colder and our bank accounts are smaller. We are struggling to pay our Christmas bills and our mood is greatly affected by all of the above.

All of a sudden, we wake up and we realize that we need to sleep again. We feel weak and sometimes even sad. Our workload makes us feel anxious and often, we even feel like not going into work, that’s how depressing it seems to us. We simply want to crawl back into bed and hibernate, like bears do.

Most people call it a ‘’Winter Depression’’ or Seasonal affective Disorder “SAD” and according to doctors, it’s absolutely normal. However, knowing how to treat it is what’s most important. We mustn’t let these feelings get the best of us. (more…)

Winter is such a festive season; a favorite time of the year for millions of people around the world. Between the cheerful togetherness of family and friends and all the wonderful sights and sounds of the season, it’s difficult to imagine missing a minute of it. Unfortunately, winter is also a time rife with lots of nasty germs and illnesses too. Protect yourself and your good times with these helpful essential oils this season!

#1. Citrus Oils

Citrus varieties are well-documented as immune system boosters that can help you fight against illnesses. They are also great antimicrobials that can take care of airborne germs. Lemon oil is a popular option during the winter season due to its uplifting effects and antimicrobial properties. It’s also helpful for those of us trying to cut back on all the cakes and pies this year, as it’s known to suppress the craving for sugar.

#2. Black Spruce

Beyond being a very pleasant holiday scent, black spruce is prized for being a great supporter of respiratory function. It’s a must-have for the season, especially if you’re prone to catching colds this time of year. Black spruce is also high in esters that research has shown to reduce anxiety. It’s perfect for those of us who get a little extra nervous about large get-together.

#3. Lavender

Speaking of less than jolly seasonal moods, lavender is often the top choice for emotional support aromatherapy. One of the best documented oils used to boost mood during stressful or depressing moods, lavender oil is also known to help with congestion from colds and allergies. It’s also known for being a skin soother, especially for dry skin.

#4. Peppermint

This wholly holiday-friendly oil will be your best friend when winter fatigue tries to beat you down. Another super mood booster, peppermint oil alleviates many mental health symptoms and can increase your physical energy. It’s also a great support when you’re sick, helping to alleviate sinus related headaches and promote the drainage of nasal congestion.

#5. Oregano

An overall germ-buster, oregano oil cleans the air of virtually everything that will try to make you sick with its strong antibacterial, anti fungal, and antimicrobial properties. Also considered a powerful anti-anxiety oil, many people use oregano oil aromatherapy to wind down after long and stressful days. It promotes feelings of calm, and is commonly used to aid sleep.

A Note On Mixing

Mixing oils to create luscious scented blends is a favorite option for many oil diffuser users. Once you discover the magic of making your own blends, the world of aromatherapy truly opens up. Use these in combination with your own favorite scents to clean the air and keep yourself in a good mood all winter long! Common winter blends using oils from our list include:

  • Improved Respiratory Function: Combine lemon, eucalyptus, peppermint, melaleuca
  • Sleep: Combine orange, lavender, frankincense

The heavenly scents of the holidays

Using the same tactic that people use to sell their homes? Yes, there is a tactic. Imagine visiting a nice and cozy home, finding the decor to be fabulous and totally falling in love with this home because it is exactly what you have been looking for. Well, some would say that baking cookies prior to having a guest visit your home that is for sale is the strategy to have. Once the guests walk in, they immediately feel at home because of the delicious aromas that fill it. It’s like all of those fragrances are the “cherry on the sundae”. It’s what will help “close the deal” as they say.
