Pelargonium Graveolens also known as Rose-Geranium or sweet scented Geranium, is a multi-branched shrub, native to South Africa, Madagascar, Egypt and Morocco and is now widely cultivated in Russia, England, the Congo, Central America and Egypt since the 1700’s. It grows up to 1.5 meters in height. The leaves are deeply incised, velvety and soft to the touch. The flowers vary from pale pink to almost white. The leaves may be strongly rose-scented, although the leaf shape and scent vary. Some plants are very strongly scented and others have little or no scent.
Geranium oil has many great properties, and is particularly esteemed as a balancing oil; geranium is often used to assist the body in balancing its hormones. Consequently, geranium oil may help women with PMS or during menopause. Geranium is a commonly used essence in perfumes, soaps and cosmetics for its mild cleansing and beautifying properties.
